Getting into the Gaming Business

January 27, 2003

GameSpy is doing a five-part series on how to get in to the gaming business through this week. They’ll be posting a new section every day this week. It should be pretty cool.

Mortal Kombat

January 25, 2003

This Mortal Kombat game is killing my hands. The combos are insane.. for instance Frost has a combo that requires you to press: X,X,Y,Y,L,B,X,X,up+A with perfect timing. Try pressing that 10 times fast!

There are a ton of things to unlock in the game ranging from movies to new characters… over 600 of them. You unlock them by earning "koins" from battling enemys in Arcade mode and by going through tutorials in "konqest" mode.

If I plan on unlocking everything, it is probably going to take a while… I don’t think I can sit and play this for very long without my hands hurting. Oh well.

Yet Another Game

January 24, 2003

Stephen Donner, for some reason, took back his XBox and he’s letting me buy his copy of Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance for cheap. It is supposed to be pretty good. Wonder when I’ll find time to play it.

Dark Age of Camelot

November 25, 2002

I was playing a little Dark Age of Camelot tonight and got my Warden, Xul, up to level 37. I also joined Ciorcal Lochtach since that’s where most of my old friends are now.

The DAoC expansion, Shrouded Isles, comes out next week. Screenshots from the new graphics engine look quite nice. Can’t wait to get this.

Toe Jam & Earl III

November 15, 2002

I recently got Toe Jam & Earl III. This game is great. I absolutely loved playing the first one, and this one is just as good if not better. It also supports downloading of new levels and characters with Xbox Live which came out today. I haven’t picked up the Xbox Live Starter Kit yet, but I probably will once a few more games come out that take advantage of it.

Dogs Playing Poker

September 19, 2002

A few of my friends, Mike McCool and Mike Ang have released their game, Dogs Playing Poker. It is a great 3d poker game and a steal for $9.95. You should be able to find it in Walmarts and Targets everywhere.

Upcoming games

August 24, 2002

I am looking forward to Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball.

Early days

July 27, 2002

Today I thought I should take a look back at the one computer game that ate away months of my life. Quake.

I was pleased to find numerous Quake clients based on the source code to the engine that id released a few years ago. After I installed Quake, I quickly deleted all of the old clients and replaced them with ZQuake and moreQuakeWorld. I have been quite impressed with both clients. I quickly installed ThreeWave CTF (the original real CTF). Once I had these installed, I fired up GameSpy and found that there were a fair number of QuakeWorld servers running. I quickly jumped on to a server and realized all my keys were screwed up. After I fixed that, I went back and was able to do pretty well. I’m not as good as I used to be, but with a little more practice, who knows.

Garrett, Mike, Gagan and I are going to get a server set up next so that we can start fragging each other once again.

I am an addict

July 22, 2002

Like Rebecca, I have become a Neverwinter Nights addict. Perhaps Rebecca and I should seek out a temple in hopes that they can cure us of this disease. I have tried all of my healing spells, but they have all failed! If only I had a better saving throw!

And you thought American Airlines was scary…

July 19, 2002

I just successfully flew my first flight in Flight Simulator 2002 from Chicago (KORD) to Ottawa (CYOW) in an Air Canada Airbus A330-300. I was able to land it, with Ben’s help, on the run way, in the center, on my 5th try.

Unfortunately, I was also trying to fix an annoying bug while my plane flew on auto pilot so I didn’t get to pay enough attention to the graphics and the landscape.
