I did my taxes this morning. Using TurboTax online it only took about an hour. Why do we have to submit tax returns every year? Why isn’t this handled automatically? I guess some people want finer control over these things, but I am pretty sure I would rather not have to deal with it.

Exactly. you (the govt) already have all my information and w2’s, just tell me how much I owe, and I’ll pay it. Otherwise, send me the check for my overpayment.
Because, if I make a mistake, they will certainly tell me about it, why not just tell me up front what needs to happen.

I prefer H&R Block online. They do the same calculations I do, so why don’t they just say “is there anything we should know?”
