A day in the life of me

July 30, 2002

Today went something like this:

Picked up my sister, Julie, from the airport. Her plane arrived on time.
Dropped off her luggage at home.
Ate lunch in Mountain View.
Went in to work to check up on things. Not much going on.
Left Netscape and headed home. Stopped by Albertsons and picked up some groceries.
Watched Greg the Bunny on TiVo.
Took nap. I went to bed far too late and got up far too early.
Worked on evil bug.
Went to Valley Fair Shoppingtown. Julie loved it. We didn’t buy much, so I expect we will be going back.
Had dinner at Chili’s. We saw Boris, Jonas and Chris there.
Went to Kmart to get Julie a hair dryer.

Now I’m tired. I need to get up early in the morning for some meetings. I plan on taking off Thursday-Tuesday from work so I can spend them with Julie. Tomorrow, we are going to plan out what we will do for the rest of the time she’s here.

Incoming!

July 30, 2002

My little sister arrives at the airport in about 25 minutes. She’ll be out here for a week. I’m coming up short on my list of things to do to keep her entertained.

Off to the airport…

It is *so* big

July 29, 2002

I just got Steve’s 36″ Sony Wega XBR. It is very big.

More on this later.

Yeah Baby, Yeah!

I saw Austin Powers in Goldmember today. I went with Blake, Jason, Stephen and Jag.

Upon arrival at the theater, we quickly spotted two amazingly attractive women. They were both blondes, one with pigtails, dressed almost identically wearing a white shirt and black pants. We located where they were sitting in the theater and managed to sit behind them. This made the movie even better.

The movie was great fun, playing heavily on both previous movies. I don’t want to spoil anything for you, so go see the it now.

Early days

July 27, 2002

Today I thought I should take a look back at the one computer game that ate away months of my life. Quake.

I was pleased to find numerous Quake clients based on the source code to the engine that id released a few years ago. After I installed Quake, I quickly deleted all of the old clients and replaced them with ZQuake and moreQuakeWorld. I have been quite impressed with both clients. I quickly installed ThreeWave CTF (the original real CTF). Once I had these installed, I fired up GameSpy and found that there were a fair number of QuakeWorld servers running. I quickly jumped on to a server and realized all my keys were screwed up. After I fixed that, I went back and was able to do pretty well. I’m not as good as I used to be, but with a little more practice, who knows.

Garrett, Mike, Gagan and I are going to get a server set up next so that we can start fragging each other once again.

Eight Legged Freaks

July 23, 2002

Eight Legged Freaks is probably the worst movie I have ever seen. In the top 3 for sure. Words can not describe how bad it was. Do not, under any circumstances, go see this movie.

The only things at all good about this movie were Scarlett Johansson (Ghost World) and Kari Wuhrer. Unfortunately, even their beauty couldn’t make this movie watchable.

Sad, sad indeed

July 22, 2002

Deb says she might give up writing her weblog. This would be very sad.

I am an addict

July 22, 2002

Like Rebecca, I have become a Neverwinter Nights addict. Perhaps Rebecca and I should seek out a temple in hopes that they can cure us of this disease. I have tried all of my healing spells, but they have all failed! If only I had a better saving throw!

I have fixes for the two urgent bugs that people have been driving me crazy about. Hopefully people will leave me alone and I can go back to being a hermit.

On the up side, it is nearly time for the weekend to start.

<rant>
This bug that I’ve been working on is turning out to be a pain in the ass. People want it fixed by later today, but I really don’t see that happening. I came up with a partial fix for it, but it doesn’t fix all the sites that are broken due to the bug. It is going to take probably two days for me to get familiar enough with the code to get a proper fix in, and even then, the fix is going to be big and scary and they aren’t going to want to take it. Of course I was only informed of this bug being urgent two days ago, while I was busy fixing some other urgent security bugs.

bah. i’m going to bed.
