June 26, 2002Chicago and Air Canada suck
June 26, 2002My original trip was scheduled from San Jose to Chicago to Ottawa. Despite a few minor delays in San Jose, we arrived to Chicago on time only for me to discover that my Air Canada flight to Ottawa had been canceled. There was another Ottawa flight around 3 hours later, but I was told it was full. They put me on stand-by for a flight to Toronto in hopes that I could go to Ottawa from there. Fortunately, there was 1 seat left on the Ottawa flight and I was able to get on it. After arriving in Ottawa just before midnight, my luggage was no where to be found.
I was finally able to get to sleep around 3:00am, but woke up at 7:00am so that I could wash the clothes I was wearing.
I’m really tired and I think I am going to skip the next two talks and take a nap. Hopefully my luggage has arrived by now.
I want wireless!
June 25, 2002I’m at the San Jose airport currently. Expedia.com is kind enough to have a little Cafe that has tables with phone lines you can dial out on. Unfortunately, this means I have to sit on the other side of the gate to where my flight is. Why can’t they have a wireless network set up? How hard can that be for them? I am told there are a few airports in the US now that do have wireless LANs setup, but this isn’t one of them. Oh well.
Away
June 25, 2002I leave in a few minutes to attend the 2002 Ottawa Linux Symposium. While I am in Ottawa, aside from the conference, I plan on celebrating Canada Day and visiting my friends at OEOne. I return on July 3rd (MiB2 day) just in time for Independence Day.
Par-tay
June 23, 2002My friend had a party yesterday. From the completely naked ping pong playing woman to the music and dancing, this party kicked ass.
Various celebrities including Carrie, Jason, "Hammer," Joe, and Gagan made appearances. I met some really great people. I’m looking forward to seeing one particular person again real soon.

Neverwinter Nights
June 22, 2002After 3 years, the much hyped Neverwinter Nights has arrived. My copy arrived today and I have spent a couple of hours playing it.
Initial impressions:
Graphics: At first I wasn’t too impressed, but after some tweaking, the graphics looks pretty damn nice. When I started playing I chose to run the game at 1024×768 using the "fast" graphics setting. I am running the game on a P3 500MHz with a GeForce 3 (64MB). I tried maxing out the graphic settings by running at 1600×1200 using the "best" graphics setting and enabling anti-aliasing. The difference is amazing. The game looks so much better. Unfortunately, the text is unreadable at 1600×1200. Turning the resolution back down to 1024×768 while leaving the graphic setting and anti-aliasing options the same still looks wonderful.
Sound: Sound seems good. Lots of background good background noise to keep things moving.
Game play: Single player game play seems fairly solid so far. I’m not too happy with my character so far, but I think that is due to me not spending enough time reading skill descriptions. I will start a new character when I get a chance.
More on the game later. Will it get the "technical marvel" stamp of approval? Stay tuned!
You have a choice…
June 21, 2002Saw Minority Report. Go see it. Lots of good stuff in this movie, but I’m too tired to write a good review right now.
Minority Report
June 20, 2002Minority Report comes out tomorrow and has received good reviews so far. I have higher expectations for this movie than last week’s big movie, Scooby-Doo.
